SHAKEDOWN TAKES OFF!
Saturday, 17 September saw the inaugural Shakedown Festival at Stanmer Park in Brighton. A near capacity crowd of over 9,000 revellers enjoyed sets from some of the hottest UK artists including Ed Sheeran, who celebrated his number 1 album by performing his last festival of the season. Ed tweeted to his 350,000 followers straight afterwards: “Brighton Shakedown was wiiiiiicked!!!
Brighton based band Rubylux said: "Thanks for having us guys! We had an amazing day and the other acts were awesome. Well done!"
The crowd went wild for grime rapper Example, whose storming performance was hailed by many as the highlight of the Main Stage and headliners Razorlight kept the crowd buzzing until the very end. Brighton DJs The Freemasons delighted the crowd with an hour long set of their top club hits, after their set James Wiltshere from the Freemasons said: "Last time I had that much fun in a Brighton field it was an arrestable offence"
The Supercharged Stage was hugely popular with a crowd that never stopped dancing for big name DJs Zane Lowe, 2ManyDJs, Kissy Sell Out featuring MC Cobra. Stamina MC, one of the performers on the Supercharged Stage said: "One of the loudest rigs I've heard at an English festival for years, wish they were all like that"
Shakedown Organiser, Steve Jones commented: "What an incredible day. The Brighton crowd showed that we're the best bunch of people in the UK, the atmosphere was amazing from start to finish, and the performances blew everyone away! We've had some great feedback, we're taking absolutely every comment on board and I think we've got a great platform to build on for the future - we've got some very exciting plans for 2012."
Matt Priest – Festival Director said: "Shakedown was an overwhelming success. We are delighted for our first year. The crowd was amazing, the artists were fantastic and the weather held! The transport system worked like a dream. Every event has teething issues in year one, and we had ours. We're planning 2012 already, and first on the list is more toilets, the Brighton crowd like to drink!"
Paul Bedford, an Investment Director at Ingenious Media said; 'The Ingenious Entertainment VCT's are delighted to support Shakedown, both in terms of our commitment to the production of a great festival as well as a significant financial investment into the event. With its massive influence on the music scene, Brighton has long since deserved its own annual music festival and we believe that Shakedown will become a permanent fixture in the local calendar for many years to come. Ingenious now supports eight Music Festivals including Creamfields, Field Day and 80's Rewind as well as a whole host of other live events and we are very, very proud to be at the beginning of something that will also give a major boost to the local economy'
Chief Inspector Simon Nelson of Sussex Police said it was a successful first event, commenting; “The mood was good and only a small amount of arrests were made for low level crime and disorder”.
Plans for 2012 are already under way and we promise to bring Shakedown back, bigger and better than before!
